-MULCHING 101-

Other Gardening SummerTips

  • Water,Water,Water. Our rainless summer is here.  Conserve water by mulching with bark from EB Stone.
A 2-inch deep layer of small or medium bark is great for borders.  Shredded bark is wonderful for keeping down weeds, but it knits so tightly together that it sheds water: it is best placed in areas that will not be watered .

  • Keep weeds pulled.  Cut off tree branches that are low to the ground.

  • Fertilize roses and other summer-blooming annuals and perennials with E.B. Stone Organic Rose & Flower Food.  When cutting roses, cut back to a branch with five leaves.

  • Pinch back chrysanthemums and marguerites.  Continue to pick off faded rhodedendrons and Camelilia flowers.

  • Plant a summer vegetable and herb garden from seed or starter plants.  Bean, carrot, chard, lettuce, peas, and radish are a few of the popular varieties available.

  • Continue to thinfruit on trees to 4 inches between tiny fruist to help trees bear larger, tastier fruit.
